HPE Raises Networking Guidance Again as Helios AI Switch Business Lands $1.2 Billion Vultr Order and Synergies Hit $800 Million

Investor Day, September 30, 2026: HPE Networking lifts FY27 revenue growth guide to high teens-to-low 20%, up from 14%-17% given just four weeks earlier

Hewlett Packard Enterprise used its first Networking-focused Investor Day to disclose a string of upward revisions that caught even sell-side analysts off guard, given the company had only reported fiscal third-quarter earnings a month earlier. Executive Vice President Rami Rahim raised fiscal 2027 HPE Networking revenue growth guidance to a range of high teens to low 20%, up from the 14% to 17% range communicated at the Q3 print. He also lifted the fiscal 2028 annual run-rate cost synergy target from Juniper integration to $800 million, up from the “at least $600 million” figure set when the deal closed in July 2025, which itself had been raised from an original $450 million target.

The headline catalyst was an AMD Helios scale-up networking order from cloud provider Vultr worth $1.2 billion, announced the same morning as the event. Rahim called it “HPE’s first order for the new integrated AMD Helios system,” featuring a purpose-built scale-up switch and software co-developed across the former Juniper and HPE engineering teams. Management now sizes the broader Helios networking opportunity at more than $1 billion over the next two years, with tray orders alone already exceeding $200 million, an opportunity Rahim described as “opening an entirely new addressable market in networking” rather than simply extending an existing one.

Networks-for-AI orders outrun supply, pushing fiscal 2027 timing later in the year

HPE also raised its fiscal 2026 cumulative networking-for-AI order expectation to above $3 billion, up from the $2.5 billion to $3 billion range given by CEO Antonio Neri and CFO Marie Myers at the Q3 call. Demand is outpacing the company’s ability to ship: orders in the third quarter grew 3.5 times faster than revenue, a gap executives attributed to supply chain constraints rather than demand softness. HPE said it has doubled networking supply purchase commitments quarter-over-quarter and more than quadrupled them year-over-year, with Rahim acknowledging, “we, including I, underestimated just how explosive the market growth is and also how good our execution is going to be in capturing that.” He said fiscal 2027 growth will still be supply-limited, “just less supply limited,” and warned the year will be more back-end loaded than normal given Helios shipment timing and the ramp of a newly disclosed Oracle agreement.

Margin trajectory holds steady even as growth guidance rises

Despite lifting both revenue growth and synergy targets, HPE kept its fiscal 2027 operating margin guide at mid-to-high 20%, up from the low 20% expected in fiscal 2026, and extended that same mid-to-high-20% range through fiscal 2029 alongside a high-teens revenue CAGR. Bank of America’s Wamsi Mohan pressed management on why higher synergies and faster growth weren’t translating into a higher margin ceiling. Rahim’s response pointed to reinvestment: “We were able to achieve these kinds of synergies without in any way impairing our ability to compete and grow... We're going from low 20s to the mid- to high 20s over the next few years without in any way slowing the innovation train.” Chief Strategy Officer Shannon Cross added that the synergy capture has come in at lower integration cost than originally modeled, supporting the company’s separate commitment to at least $5 billion of free cash flow next year.

Segment-level growth targets quantify where the AI buildout is landing

For the first time, HPE broke out multiyear CAGR targets by networking category through fiscal 2029: data center networking, the fastest-growing segment, is guided to a low-to-high 50% CAGR; routing to a low-to-high 20% CAGR; Campus & Branch, still roughly half of networking revenue, to a high single-digit CAGR; and security to a high single-digit CAGR. Data center networking SVP Praveen Jain and routing infrastructure SVP AE Natarajan both emphasized custom silicon as the differentiator, with Natarajan noting the PTX12000 router delivers “30% more [capacity and] ratings and capabilities” than competitors in a denser 12-slot chassis versus 16 or 18 slots elsewhere. On gross margin mix, Rahim addressed a direct question from JPMorgan’s Joe Cardoso about data center networking rising from roughly 10%-15% of segment revenue toward a third, conceding data center switching carries below-average gross margin but arguing the business is “operating margin neutral” once R&D and sales costs are factored in.

Integration running ahead of plan, with partner and systems unification still to come

Rahim detailed two remaining integration milestones: “Partner Day One” on November 1, which unifies all 60,000 HPE partners onto a single program called HPE Partner Ready Vantage, and a multi-year quote-to-cash systems consolidation, with integrated quoting launching in November and supply chain unification targeted by the end of 2027. Notably, only about 10% of HPE Aruba Networking and Juniper partner bases overlapped prior to the deal, which management frames as a largely untapped cross-sell opportunity. Sales teams were already merged within six months of close under what the company called “Sales Day One,” with one catalog, one compensation plan and unified account rules.

Oracle win and neocloud strategy reinforce the full-stack pitch

HPE disclosed it is participating in Oracle’s multiyear, gigawatt-scale AI infrastructure build-out across both routing and switching, a win Rahim said validates the combined company’s ability to compete in “some of the world’s most demanding AI environments.” On neoclouds, Rahim distinguished hyperscalers, who tend to buy technology layers independently, from neocloud and sovereign cloud customers, who increasingly prefer full-rack solutions from a single vendor, directly supporting the Helios and Vultr thesis. He was careful to temper expectations on market share within the Helios TAM, telling Citi’s Asiya Merchant it remains “still very early to talk about market share,” even as he expressed confidence in the size of the opportunity itself.

Customer proof point: ServiceNow cites a 90% drop in incident volume

ServiceNow’s Sajeev Nair joined the stage to describe the operational impact of the Mist/Juniper self-driving network technology his team has used since 2018, citing a 90% reduction in incident volume and a drop in network patching time from “2,000 to 3,000 hours a year” to under 60 hours annually. Nair said ServiceNow has set an internal target of a 100% autonomous network by 2028. Campus & Branch GM Sujai Hajela backed this with internal data showing Marvis, the AI engine shared across the Mist and Aruba Central platforms, executed “thousands of trusted self-driving actions” without human intervention over a recent 90-day period on HPE’s cloud channel.

Co-packaged optics still years away for the scale-up opportunity

Asked about HPE’s optical strategy relative to routing competitors with pronounced optics businesses, Rahim said co-packaged optics is “not an immediate opportunity” and likely won’t be relevant to the scale-up layer for another two to three years, with HPE instead relying on partner-built, HPE-branded pluggable coherent optics for data center interconnect use cases in the near term.
